Space for you and your family

Sometimes, as a parent, you just need a little support. Someone who thinks with you, sees your child as they are or helps to do something fun together. There are people in the neighbourhood who are there for you and your child. Whether it's a listening ear, a helping hand for young carers, a boost in self-confidence or someone who comes by to read to you: there are options that suit your family. So that you feel space to parent in your own way, and your child gets the chance to grow, discover and just be themselves.

Frequently asked questions

How can my child meet peers?

This can be done in several ways:

  • For primary school students, there is the free programme LOL after School: fun activities in the neighbourhood where children quickly get to know other children. For secondary school students, there is the ExploreX programme.
  • For young people, there are youth rooms such as Atolplaza and the Meidenlokaal Lelystad at Hoek van 't IJ.
  • Ouryouth workers regularly organise activities for young people.
  • Or take a look at Challenge Up: get involved for someone else and learn something yourself.

My child would like to do something for another person. Where can this be done safely and supervised?

For children aged 10 to 14, there is (B)east Buddy. Together with other children, they help the neighbourhood move forward with fun and educational activities. Think about helping at events or making something creative for others.

Young people from 12 years old can take part in Challenge Up. They discover what suits them and do something with others. For example, cooking for the elderly, playing sports with people with disabilities or creative projects for a good cause. These activities for young people fall under Social Service Time (MDT). With MDT, children gain new skills, help others and earn a recognised certificate.

My child has a good idea, now what?

Tell our children's neighbourhood workers! They help think about the idea and how it will actually be implemented. For example, through the children's neighbourhood councils in Lelystad.

My child is struggling at school, where can I find help?

Is your child still in primary school? Contact our children's neighbourhood workers.

Is your child in secondary school? Contact our youth prevention workers.

Our youth prevention workers in Lelystad are happy to help. They listen, think with you and look for a solution together. Feel free to contact us.
