Respite care

What is respite care?

Respite care is substitute informal care. Care is temporarily taken over by a vrjwilliger, giving the informal carer some time off to recharge. This can be for a few hours, a day or longer. Care is taken over by a volunteer or professional, at home or away from home. Think of day care, guest houses or a joint holiday with care support. Respite care helps prevent overburdening and makes it easier to sustain informal care
