Neighbourhood mediation

Everyone wants a nice place to live

Your home is a place where you come to rest. Sometimes that peace is disturbed, for example by nuisance from neighbours. Think loud music, shouting or minor irritations that slowly develop into conflicts. Sometimes they manage to work things out together, but not always. In such cases, neighbourhood mediation can help.

What is community mediation?

Neighbourhood mediation supports neighbours in resolving quarrels, nuisances or tensions by restarting the conversation between you. Under the guidance of two independent neighbourhood mediators, you sit down to talk. They listen, get the conversation going and help you reach clear agreements together.

The mediators do not take sides, pass judgement or decide anything for you. You remain in control, but mediators provide some direction to steer the conversation in the right direction.

Who are community mediators?

Our community mediators are specially trained volunteers. They are good listeners, reliable and have a duty of confidentiality. Their commitment is always free of charge.

Examples of situations where community mediation can help:

  • noise pollution (music, banging, shouting)
  • quarrel about property boundaries or fences
  • nuisance caused by pets or children
  • Misunderstandings around garden maintenance or waste
